Understanding Engineering

Are we engineers? Yes, we are all engineers. What are our primary objectives? Engineering in my terms is understanding science and technology in the process of application. Engineering is one important field in which a country's progress is dependent on. Almost all manufacturing industries require engineering skills. Research and development areas portraits a country's brand in international markets. Coming to our country where are our engineering skills? Where is our art and architecture. Our mythology describes about a great civil engineer Vishwakarma. We know about the mordern day engineer like Vishweshwaraiah. We are very lucky to be in a hub of civil engineering beauties. The greatest civilizations existed in our country. Many of our temples have a scientific reason behind their construction which reflects the understanding of science by our ancestors. This is the birth place of great mathematicians like Aryabhatta and Ramanujan, scientists like Charaka. Even our Vedas, Upanishads, Epics portray various applications of modern day science and technology. Most of us may not agree to this but one thing we must understand is these belong to our India not just to a religion called Hinduism. If we understand this simple thing our unity wins over our ego and we accept the Indian history and develop new ideas from our knowledge which is in the form of Vedas and share it to the rest of the world creating our own brand on the international platform. In my views the greatness of these mythological treasure is overshadowed by religion. Even the lord Krishna's 'Geetha' help us only to build our character and face difficult situations that arise in our life but never preaches any religion. It is not a book of any religion, it is the treasure of our country. Coming to present day scenario most of us are dedicated towards earning a degree with a good score rather than earning knowledge. Even our engineering colleges are concentrating on placements rather than towards empowering students with knowledge. We need to focus ourselves towards gaining knowledge and not on scores and also we need to transform our system towards this. A humble request to all the parents to support their loved one's dream. You may feel my words as a piece of old outdated philosophy but there certainly a need for transforming ourselves. I have been to a lecture where a professor, I don't remember his name, said that the aim of the college is to empower you with knowledge and it is our responsibility to search for a job where we fit in, not just for money but to create your own mark in that profession. It is true it is our responsibility to earn a job which we like so that we don't enforce our dreams which we did't fulfill on the next generation and let them have their own freedom. We may have severe economic crisis where we certainly need to do a job and help our family, in that case we can do any job for your family and in the same time we can learn new things in our area of interest and keep trying to get in to our own field. You will surely succeed, moreover you will enjoy your work you never be in a depression that I left my field. Our Prime Minister 'Shri Narendra Modi' has introduced Make in India initiative which is very much essential in our journey towards development. How can we achieve this? Not certainly by only software engineers or data analysts, we also need engineers of different fields, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Bio and Chemical. We need to transform our country, we need to transform ourselves, we should love our field rather than earnings, we need a change in our system such that create equal employment opportunities in all fields so that we don't see a electrical engineer by degree transforming himself to a software engineer by profession just because of lac of opportunities and lead the rest of his life cursing himself. We need industries, conglomerates to invest towards Make in India, create job opportunities, encourage all fields of engineering. We also need to transform the system so that we increase the quality of engineering colleges not the quantity. We need to understand engineering and not just replicate the words in the examination. Let us transform our selves to transform our India. All you engineers out there throw away your All in ones, Previous Year's Question Papers, Important Question Banks and start a journey to be a engineer not just by your degree but by your ideas and mindset. Jai Hind. Satyamevajayate.
